ABOUT KROMYA

KROMYA ART GALLERY was founded in 2018 in Lugano by Tecla Riva, Giorgio Ferrarin and Adriano A. Sala as a result of a long-standing common passion and expertise. In 2020 KROMYA expanded its headquarters with a new outpost in Verona, Italy.

The Materie Prime: Luce exhibition at the KROMYA Art Gallery, curated by Matteo Galbiati, took place from November 30, 2021 to January 24, 2022, and was dedicated to the masters who made the interaction between light and matter their main form of artistic expression.

This exhibition was the first in a series of exhibitions inspired by “matter,” which originated from the exhibition “Materie prime. Artisti italiani contemporanei tra terra e luce,” held from September 6 to October 27 at the Rocca Roveresca in Senigallia, and produced in collaboration with KROMYA.

The exhibition featured works by important artists including Grazia Varisco, co-founder in the 1960s of the T Group, Paolo Scirpa, Fabrizio Corneli, Carlo Bernardini, and Nicola Evangelisti. Each of them explored the interaction between light and matter in a unique and surprising way.

Grazia Varisco created the series “Schemi luminosi variabili,” luminous kinetic objects produced for the “Arte programmata” exhibition at the Olivetti showroom in Milan in 1962.

Paolo Scirpa focused on a dimension in which light and space become immaterial and spectacular protagonists, creating structures/sculptures that give the image of depth, often articulating themselves in intricate labyrinths.

Fabrizio Corneli investigated the dialectical play between light and shadow through surprising effects of refraction, decomposition, and anamorphosis, which involve the viewer in a pure perceptual experience.

Carlo Bernardini focused his work on the perception of space examined through the beam of light that penetrates a reality waiting to be revealed, creating hypothetical spaces with luminous perimeters, real and proper virtual environments.

Nicola Evangelisti presented works based on scientific themes, mainly characterized by the use of artificial light, investigated through installations, light-boxes, photography, and video.

The opening night was an opportunity to hear curator Matteo Galbiati and the artists, who provided further explanations of their works and their artistic research.
