ABOUT KROMYA

KROMYA ART GALLERY was founded in 2018 in Lugano by Tecla Riva, Giorgio Ferrarin and Adriano A. Sala as a result of a long-standing common passion and expertise. In 2020 KROMYA expanded its headquarters with a new outpost in Verona, Italy.

KROMYA Art Gallery Lugano presents Fuori misura, the first solo exhibition at the gallery by Swiss contemporary artist Alex Dorici. The exhibition brings together a series of new works conceived specifically for the gallery space, creating an immersive environment that combines installation, sculpture, painting, and site-specific interventions.

The title Fuori misura (“Out of Measure”) introduces the central concept of the exhibition: a reflection on the relationship between scale, perception, and spatial balance. In Dorici’s project, artworks and exhibition display form a unified system. The installation design becomes an integral part of the artistic statement rather than a neutral support, challenging the traditional idea of proportion, order, and equilibrium.

A key element of the exhibition is the contrast between materials that appear visually contradictory. Large foam structures, extremely light yet monumental in scale, coexist with smaller granite blocks that carry significant physical and symbolic weight. Through this tension, Dorici overturns conventional expectations: what appears massive may reveal itself as fragile, while seemingly minor elements may become obstacles or anchors within the space.

This exploration of scale, weight, and perception is a defining characteristic of Dorici’s artistic practice. The artist frequently works with industrial or recycled materials, selecting them for their ability to activate spatial relationships and engage the viewer’s body within the environment. The exhibition space becomes an experiential field where traditional hierarchies between volume, surface, and presence are questioned.

The exhibition unfolds through a sequence of site-specific installations, sculptures, plexiglas works, and paintings, creating a dynamic rhythm between surfaces, structures, and spatial passages. The project also includes a series of artistic boxes, conceived as autonomous micro-installations that condense Dorici’s visual research into smaller experimental environments.

Throughout the exhibition, the color red functions as a visual grammar that connects the entire project. Acting as a unifying element, red neutralizes hierarchies between different materials and establishes a coherent visual language across the works.

With Fuori misura, Alex Dorici invites viewers to reconsider how space, material, and perception interact. The exhibition becomes a dynamic environment where balance and instability coexist, and where sculpture, architecture, and installation merge into a single spatial experience.
