ABOUT KROMYA
KROMYA ART GALLERY was founded in 2018 in Lugano by Tecla Riva, Giorgio Ferrarin and Adriano A. Sala as a result of a long-standing common passion and expertise. In 2020 KROMYA expanded its headquarters with a new outpost in Verona, Italy.
After the successful exhibition Memorie dal Futuro at Castello Scaligero in Malcesine (VR), curated by Marina Pizziolo and featuring sculptural works by Katja Loher (Zurich, 1979) and Dario Tironi (Bergamo, 1980), it will be displayed at the KROMYA Art Gallery in Verona (via Oberdan, 11c).
The exhibition will be open to the public from August 8th to September 30th, 2023 and will officially open on Thursday, September 7th, 2023 at 6:30 pm in the presence of the artists and the curator.
In addition to the exhibition promoted by the Municipality of Malcesine, the two locations offer a different perspective on the work of the two authors, united by the same passionate battle for the defense of the environment. While monumental works are on display in Malcesine, smaller works are presented in Verona: seven blown glass video sculptures by Katja Loher and seven sculptures by Dario Tironi, capable of providing an even more direct and engaging visual comparison.
In Katja Loher’s video sculptures, the defense of the environment takes on inspired magical forms. Based on scientific truths, the artist brings to life works of art that use a magnetic and suggestive aesthetic language, capable of immersing the observer in a world of stunning beauty. To create her video sculptures, a mix of blown glass and monitors, Loher starts by observing photographs and visions of plankton under the microscope, to which she superimposes complex choreographies. The bodies of men and women, filmed from above, give life to a dance that simulates the movement of microscopic, floating, and living elements.
Dario Tironi, on the other hand, is an artist who works on the poetics of waste, “making us discover the beauty of the discarded, the waste, the useless,” as Marina Pizziolo writes.
